The topic of the assignment concerns a foresight study on the impact of innovation on the development of industries and skills and jobs in Europe in the period 2010-2030, in particular of the impact of so-called NMP technologies (Nanotechnologies, New Materials and New Production Technologies) on various sectors including chemicals, automotive, construction, textile, paper, etc. The aim of this challenging future study is twofold: 1) to identify the impact of NMP and new industrial patterns on current and future skills and competences needed in research, engineering and manufacturing over the next 20 years, and 2) analyzing the education and training responses. The study involves a review of existing literature on skills and new production technologies as well as a survey and interviews among stakeholders involving firms as well as educational institutes. The trainee will assist in the interviews, analyse survey results, and work on a systematic overview of the literature together with the staff from the company.
The student will have good contact with the other researchers that are involved in this project. The project is part of a larger European research for the European Commission, DG research.
